Jasperware
A major innovation for which Josiah Wedgwood is remembered is Jasperware, which has been described as the most important invention in the history of ceramics since the discovery of porcelain. After years of experimentation, Wedgwood perfected his design for this unglazed stoneware. Jasperware can be almost any color, but the most famous examples are pale or dark blue and white. Known for the white relief applied to the sides of Jasperware, most often in imitation of classical Greek motifs, Jasperware has been in production for 250 years.
